It rained on their parade – a cold rain even – but thousands of people dressed in traditional Bavarian folk costumes made the best of it as this year’s annual costume parade (Trachtenzug) for the Oktoberfest got under way on Sunday. Bands, horses and ornamental carriages braved the elements, along with about 9,000 people in traditional costumes or sporting traditional firearms to provide a second official opening to this year’s Oktoberfest, sidelined the last two years due to the coronavirus.
