Mets to retire Keith Hernandez’s No. 17 on July 9

NEW YORK — It’s been 25 years since the Mets put Keith Hernandez into their Hall of Fame. Now, they are putting his jersey number into their history books, too. Hernandez’s No. 17 will be retired by the Mets on July 9, before a game against the Marlins at Citi Field, the team announced on Tuesday. Hernandez spent seven years with the Mets, batting .297 with 939 hits and five Gold Gloves at first base.
